It will become mandatory for all construction products, sold within Europe from 1 July 2013, to have a CE Marking in accordance with the Construction Products Regulations (CPR). Previously this has been voluntary for suppliers and manufacturers but any products which are covered by a harmonised European standard (hEN) or European Technical Assessment (ETA) will have a mandatory requirement to affix a CE marking from 01 July 2013. Whilst a year later, all fabricated structural steelwork sold and delivered to site, in Europe from 1 July 2014, must be CE marked as a legal requirement under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).
Clients and main contractors will have an obligation to appoint a steel fabricator with an execution class to meet the requirements of their project, in accordance with BS EN 1090-1.
