Sunshine, rain, mountains and valleys, sheep and midges were all part of a day’s charity cycling for a team of staff from our St Asaph office.
A group of seven took part in the 6th Annual Water Industry Bikeathon event on 26th June to raise money for Water Aid and Epilepsy UK. Joining groups from Welsh Water and other associated companies the Caulmert team cycled 54 miles over the hills and valleys of North Wales. The circular route from Llyn Brenig called in at checkpoints where 101 types of flapjack and other high energy sustenance helped keep energy and moral high.
Having almost made it to the finish without incident the final approach to Llyn Brenig down a steep forestry track on road bikes resulted in a puncture. Pausing in the rain during the inner tube replacement gave the local midge population an unexpected late afternoon feast!
Everyone was proud to be wearing the team cycle jerseys, and staying together as a team was much more important that setting any records. After a day to reflect on the hardships everyone has said they’d do it again!
A total of over £700 has been raised so far by the team through the two JustGiving for the two causes. If you would like to donate, the page is still open here
