Caulmert’s expertise has played a key role in the construction of a state-of-the-art facility that will prove the catalyst for a leap forward in Beckers Group’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and pioneering new technologies.
The engineering, environmental, and planning consultancy was appointed by the organisation, which provides coil coatings and supplies industrial paints worldwide, to work on the build of its FutureLab in Speke, Liverpool.
As well as undertaking the civils and structural engineering plan, Caulmert assembled the design team, which included architects and M+E consultants, as it oversaw the scheme from inception to completion.
Beckers Group was eager to drive development with an enhanced centre aimed at acting as a hub for creativity, collaboration, and cutting-edge research.
The 150-year-old global company engaged Caulmert to help deliver the project that effectively doubled the capacity of the German-headquartered business.
Director of engineering at Caulmert, David Else, who managed the project, said: “It was fantastic to work with Beckers Group on producing FutureLab, which will not only enhance its activity, but also provide increased job opportunities.
“We knew that they were determined to create something that had the ‘wow factor’, and it’s fair to say that anyone visiting the centre will be suitably impressed.
“We are thrilled to have delivered the programme on time and to the specific needs of a company with impressive plans for the future.”
The facility includes bespoke cladding with Beckers Group’s innovative paint, polished concrete, high-spec lab equipment, a moveable wall, and a customised experience room with switch control glass enabling privacy at the touch of a button.
FutureLab also includes cutting-edge sustainability features, boasting the company’s own thermal-control coating on the roof that reduces the amount of energy needed to warm the building, an active carbon filtration system on a VOC exhaust chimney, and heat pumps to reduce CO2 emissions.
Beckers Group’s chief technology officer Gavin Bown said: “FutureLab represents a significant leap forward in our commitment to innovation and sustainability.
“This state-of-the-art facility embodies our dedication to pioneering new technologies and sustainable practices that will lead the coatings industry into a brighter, more responsible future. I am thrilled to inaugurate FutureLab and excited for the groundbreaking work that will emerge from here.”
Founded in 2009, Caulmert is on track to meet an ambitious growth and development plan.
Its expertise in a variety of engineering, environmental, and planning disciplines is supported by its use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to a level two standard on many of its projects.
