A St Asaph-based engineering, environmental and planning consultancy has carved up a novel way to support a local primary school’s party.
Caulmert has donated 80 pumpkins to Abergele-based St George Church in Wales Primary School’s pumpkin party, which encourages creativity in its pupils.
Before the event, the school’s field was transformed into a pumpkin patch, with all pupils able to take home and decorate their own pumpkin.
Their creations were revealed at the party, which marked national pumpkin day, with three pupils winning toyshop vouchers for their efforts.
The event helps raise funds for the Church of Wales school, which is based just four miles from Caulmert’s office in St Asaph.
Party ticket sales will go towards the purchase of a polytunnel, which acts as the school’s greenhouse, where pupils can grow fruit and vegetables.
St George, in partnership with its parent-teacher association (PTA), is also raising funds for a modification of its original Victorian school house to provide a classroom for nursery pupils.
Caulmert’s donation helped reduce costs of the party for the school, and also supported a small business. The pumpkins were purchased from Jay’s Fresh Milk, a fresh produce distributor in Rhyl.
St George headteacher Andrew Roberts said: “I am thrilled with the generosity of Caulmert, who have worked closely with the school PTA to source and fund the pumpkins for the pumpkin party.
“The pupils were very excited to see the school field transformed into a giant pumpkin patch. They will certainly remember their pumpkin party thanks to Caulmert.”
Donna Milne, executive director at Caulmert, said: “The pumpkin party was the perfect opportunity to support a small local school and provide something fun for the pupils.
“We’re also pleased to have used local produce from a small business, so that the project supported as many people in the community as possible.”
St George Church in Wales Primary School was established in 1866, and became a free school in 1891 supported by Denbighshire County Council.
The school runs regular extra-curricular activities including sport, outward-bound trips, and after-school clubs.
