Caulmert has been appointed to provide providing planning, engineering, environmental and project management advice to Logik Developments for its £100m waste energy plant project at Deeside, Flintshire.
Energy firm EQTEQ agreed a deal with Logik in December 2020 to purchase and develop land at Deeside Industrial Estate. The site currently has planning permission for a £50m biogas generation and facility for the processing of 182,000 tonnes of municipal, commercial and industrial waste into RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) with the organic waste element being processed by an anaerobic digestion plant which is projected to produce 2MW of biogas.
Caulmert is now working with EQTEQ and Logik to secure planning for a gasification plant site, utilising the RDF produced by the waste energy plant, to generate up to 20MW of green electricity, enough to power 37,500 homes, and 27MW of thermal heat production. The electricity and heat will be exported to the grid and/or sold locally through private wire and heat networks with several local industrial energy users registering their interest.
The scheme is expected to create 50 jobs when the plant is operational with additional jobs created during the construction phase.
