From clearing abandoned acrylic nails and fishing wire from Pensarn Beach to sponsoring key equipment for Dragon Riders National Race Team, Caulmert is driving positive change across North Wales.
The engineering, environmental, and planning consultancy’s commitment to the environment and local communities has helped guide social value initiatives, including a summer clean-up operation in Abergele.
Ten team members got hands-on, collecting and removing six bags of rubbish from the beach using litter picking equipment provided by Keep Wales Tidy.
Amongst the debris were discarded cigarette butts, birthday candles, cans and glass bottles, and balloons, which were disposed of to help improve safety and sanitation.
The initiative was the suggestion of Caulmert’s geotechnical engineering associate director, David Kitching, and formed part of the company’s Sustainability Steering Group’s (SSG) efforts, which aim to embed sustainable practices across the business.
Oighrig Rieder, Caulmert graduate consultant and SSG member, said: “We want to improve the environment and support the community around us, and a beach clean was a meaningful way to achieve this.
“We have sustainability champions as part of the SSG, but we are eager for everyone within the wider company team to feel included in the sustainability work and empowered to turn ideas into positive action.
“It was fantastic to have a group of us come together to help protect the people and wildlife in the area.”
In addition, the business has shown support for the Dragon Riders National Race Team by sponsoring its gazebo for the duration of the prestigious BMX National Series 2026.
Riders, their families, and other key personnel associated with the Rhyl-based sports club recently benefited from the shade provided whilst the group competed in rounds five and six in Gosport, Hampshire, during temperatures of nearly 30°C.
Caulmert finance & HR director Donna Milne’s son, Luca, took part in the weekend-long competition and secured a place in the quarter-finals of the open 13 category.
Donna said: “A huge thank you to Caulmert for supporting such a fantastic team and helping us to shelter from the sunshine at Gosport BMX Club.
“The riders and their parents are very grateful, and I think you’ll agree that the gazebo looks fantastic! We look forward to using it again.”
Ffrancon Williams, a member of Caulmert’s Board, was thrilled with the opportunity to support the youngsters.
He said: “I think it’s brilliant to help the next generation thrive in such an exciting competition and I wish the very best of luck to the Dragon Riders for the remaining rounds of the season.
“Beyond supporting local community initiatives, Caulmert is also committed to having a positive environmental impact wherever possible, so I’m proud to see our staff feel the same way with so many, 20 per cent of our UK workforce to be exact, turning out for the beach clean.
“I want to say a huge thank you everyone who took part. Not only did we enjoy spending time together outdoors, but it was also eye-opening to see just how much litter can be collected from a seemingly clean stretch of coastline in a relatively short period of time.
“Looking ahead, we hope to organise another beach clean in the future and would love to see even more team members and partners get involved.”
