Caulmert to relocate St Asaph office as firm marks a ‘new, improved business as usual’

Engineering, environmental, and planning consultancy, Caulmert is moving to a new office in St Asaph.

Caulmert will relocate 20 staff from its existing office on St Asaph Business Park to the nearby OpTIC Technology Centre. The office will also serve a further 10 staff from across North Wales.  

The move marks what the firm calls a new, improved business as usual. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Caulmert has reflected on how it operates, including how it can do even more to enhance staff wellbeing and reduce its environmental impact.

Caulmert has successfully embraced working from home and is allowing all staff to continue working flexibly. Staff from across North Wales will have access to Covid-secure co-working facilities at The OpTIC Centre alongside several permanent desks for those who prefer to be in the office full-time.

Owned by Wrexham Glyndwr University and managed by Glyndwr Innovations, OpTIC also provides facilities including a board room, conference room, meeting rooms and on-site catering.

The move also contributes to Caulmert’s efforts to be an ethical and responsible organisation. Home-working will reduce travel and the flexible workspace will reduce the firm’s energy consumption. The OpTIC Centre boasts green technologies, including cedar cladding, recycled waste slate, and a photovoltaic wall, which harvests rainwater as well as generating electricity. 

Caulmert MD, Mike Caulfield said “In a staff survey, the majority of our staff expressed a strong preference for part home/part office working. We had taken some steps to facilitate this by investing in remote working IT infrastructure but the pandemic escalated these plans. We were pleased to find our staff were happier, more productive and able to serve our clients just as well from home.  It’s important that we are socially responsible by taking care of our staff and clients; and reducing our environmental impact so it makes absolute sense to continue working this way for the foreseeable future.”
