Davood Mahdavian is excited for the future after hitting the ground running at Caulmert.
Joining the engineering, environmental, and planning consultancy as a senior geotechnical engineer, the new recruit has already got to grips with key projects.
Manchester-based Davood will work from the company’s Altrincham office as he tackles day-to-day activity that includes ground investigation and design.
Part of his programme portfolio is the Vale of York Motorway Services and Dawley Sports and Leisure at Langley School in Telford.
Davood said: “I only started in early December, but it has been fantastic to get hands on and help the team on two importance schemes.
“Reviewing reports and seeing the activity that has already been done has helped me get up to speed, and there is still plenty of work to do, which is great.”
Iran born and bred Davood will mark a decade in the UK in 2025. During that time, he has completed a PhD in computational geomechanics, which built on a master’s degree in mining engineering completed in his home country.
He continued: “The geotechnical side of engineering has always been an interest, especially after working in mining and ground water previously.
“That background will enable myself and the team to provide a more complete service. The mining industry is not high on the agenda, so to have many strings to the bow is important.”
Davood is relishing the opportunity to grow with Caulmert, which is looking to further strengthen its geotechnical team as part of wider company goals.
The consultancy is bidding to double turnover to more than £8m in the next five years.
He added: “It has been a really positive experience at Caulmert so far, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
“Helping oversee members of the geotechnical team is something I will relish as I add to my skillset.
“There is a good group of people and ambitious plans for the company, which I am eager to play a part in.”
David Kitching, associate director at Caulmert, added: “It’s fantastic to be able to welcome Davood into the team, which will benefit from his experience and expertise.
“For the consultancy, 2025 promises to be an exciting one, and with Davood’s arrival we are more equipped for what lies ahead.”
Founded in 2009, Caulmert is on track to meet an ambitious growth and development plan.
Its expertise in a variety of engineering, environmental, planning, and project management disciplines is supported by its use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to a level two standard on many of its projects.
