Caulmert provided an engineering and planning consultancy service for a new 50MW solar farm at Shotwick, nr Deeside Industrial Park. The ground mounted solar array is reportedly the largest of its kind in the UK to date.
Having supported SES Ltd during their bid process, Caulmert provided technical advice for both planning and engineering matters. The scheme includes the construction of approx 190,000 solar panels on a 100Ha site adjacent to the river Dee, nr Chester.
Design of the site includes the new entrance off the main Deeside Industrial Estate link road, drainage and infrastructure for the temporary compound and site amenities area, HGV drop off areas and mini dumper vehicle material pick up points, culvert bridge crossings, extensive geotechnical investigations, bridge assessments and a heavy duty cable support structure over both highway and rail crossings.
Due to the nature of the project, the majority of the infrastructure was associated with the temporary works. Sheer numbers of deliveries and logistic movements on the site, during construction, required Caulmert to provide a robust scheme, whilst maintaining focus on the descoping of the facilities upon completion.
