Caulmert Limited were commissioned by North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA) to undertake a CAT3 check of the improvement works proposed to stabilise the embankment of the A494 Road, North Wales.
The existing embankment that provide support to the road next to Bala Lake was showing signs of settlement jeopardizing the overall integrity of the A494 road.
The proposed improvement works comprised a 72m x 2m height reinforced concrete retaining wall supported on steel tubular piles socketed in to the bed rock. Furthermore, soil anchors were provided on the retaining wall to ensure the global stability of the proposal.
Caulmert assessed the structural proposal, checking proposed loading, steel tubular pile capacity, reinforced concrete design, drawings as well as the proposed soil anchors resistance.
