Caulmert Limited were appointed to provide design and management services for the construction of an additional processing plant to improve and upgrade the existing paper lines process at Viridor‘s Crayford MRF
The project comprised a new build portal frame extension to the existing MRF picking lines building and the installation of two additional picking lines including site fabrication of a structural 
support frame and installation of the process equipment – conveyors, optical sorters and picking cabins. The works were undertaken over 3 phases which were managed as a single project under CDM.
The project involved closely co-ordinated interactions between the project team and the construction/process contractors to deliver the works within very tight project parameters including site area, timescales (to meet market forces) and budget. The project also impacted on the main MRF processing plant, and involved working around a live operational site, accommodating business as usual operations.
The project was delivered within budget and importantly on time, which allowed the site operations team to run all performance tests ahead of their busy Christmas schedule.
