Caulmert was commissioned to provide a range of geotechnical, civil and structural engineering consultancy services on behalf of Wynne Construction Ltd for a new £5.1m school development at Ysgol Glancegin, Maesgeirchen.
The scheme involved the design of a new two storey, split level building, demolition of the existing school buildings and the creation of new external facilities.
Due to the existing school building needing to remain fully operational during the works, the new school building needed to be located on the existing playing fields, which had previously been cut into the existing sloped site which necessitated the introduction of a reinforced concrete retaining wall to gain best use of available space. After the completion of the new school building the existing buildings will be demolished to create new external play areas, sports pitches and external learning areas.
Caulmert detailed the scheme using Revit 2016 and Civils 3D thus allowing full coordination of the above and below ground structures and drainage with the rest of the design team.
