On the 30th April and 1st May Caulmert’s Graduate Hydrologist, John Cowx, will be co-presenting his MSc research at this year’s River Restoration Centre Conference at the Whittlebury Hall Hotel, Northamptonshire.
John carried out a post project appraisal of a restoration attempt by Natural England in the River Lathkill, Derbyshire. Large Woody Debris (LWD) structures were anchored to the river bed in an attempt to restore the hydromorphology and ecology of the previously modified channel.
John carried out detail mapping around the LWD. The results indicated the hydraulic and morphological regime around the reach had been significantly altered. These conditions were found to be favourable for in stream ecology.
John will be giving a poster presentation and also assisting on a short talk regarding the use of large wood in rivers at this year’s conference.
