Constant support and encouragement meant Tim Williams jumped at the chance of promotion with Caulmert.
The North Walian is the engineering, environmental and planning consultancy’s new building information modeling (BIM) manager.
Having joined the company in August 2021 as senior structural/BIM technician, Tim now has extra responsibility on projects, which include the full structural and civil works at Border Control Point in Holyhead.
He said: “It’s great to be recognised for working hard because I was doing a lot of the things I am now before the promotion.
“It’s a fantastic place to work in terms of support when you step into a new role, and those messages from the likes of Mike (Caulfield, founder and managing director), Donna (Milne, director) and Elliott (Davies, associate director) show you’re valued.”
Having studied a National Certificate (NC) in engineering, Anglesey-based Tim enhanced his learning at Grwp Llandrillo Menai.
Building on his NC, he went on to complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in construction and engineering at the Llangefni-based facility through the University of Glamorgan.
Since that education, Tim has twice worked on projects at the college, the most recent of which saw him play a part in the consultancy providing civil, structural and geotechnical services on the new Canolfan Chwaraeon.
The multi-million-pound net zero sports science facility was designed to BIM level two and utilised the latest software, including Tekla Structural Designer analysis, Autodesk Revit and Civil 3D’s MicroDrainage.
He said: “It has come full circle. It was wonderful to carry out some activity at a place where I’d studied for the job I now have at Caulmert.
“Working on these projects requires a certain knowledge and I’ve always enjoyed the modeling and managing of projects.”
On his progression, Tim, who manages up to 20 people on the BIM side of various developments, added: “As a technician you seem to naturally head towards either BIM or design management, and the former was always the area I was interested in pursuing.
“The role is a good mix of modeling and working on Revit, so it offers an interesting variety to the day-to-day workload.”
Tim is also helping to drive Caulmert’s quest for the ISO 19650 accreditation, which is an international standard for managing information over the whole life cycle of a built asset using BIM.
